Navigating Suicidality: A Guide for Life Coaches
Presented by Stephen Berry, M.Div, MBA, PCC, and Maria Winters, LCPC, NCC

Learning Strand: Wellness

Program Description:
Coaches may encounter moments where a client says something that raises concerns about
their well-being, particularly regarding thoughts of suicide. Knowing how to respond is essential.
Discussing suicide is not outside the scope of practice for life coaches. While treating the
symptoms are, asking the right questions, and encouraging individuals to connect with
appropriate resources are well within the realm of effective coaching. It is a social responsibility
for any human being. The CDC is reporting that approximately 5 humans per hour die of suicide
in the U.S., and talking about it is the most effective means of prevention.

The workshop: "Navigating Suicidality: A Guide for Life Coaches" offers an interactive learning
experience tailored to equip coaches with the skills and confidence to respond to a client
thinking about suicide. What better way to take your coaching to the next level than by learning
how to save your client’s life?

Learning Objectives:

By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to:
• Understand the signs and indicators of suicidality in clients, including behavioral,
emotional, and verbal cues.
• Gain the knowledge and skills to ask about suicide directly and confidently when working
with their clients. Coaches will understand the importance of discussing this topic and
feel more comfortable initiating conversations about suicide in a supportive,
compassionate, and non-judgmental manner.
• Know when and how to refer clients to other helping professionals or crisis intervention

services. Coaches will gain an understanding of the appropriate channels and resources
for making referrals for clients in need of immediate support.
