The Missing Piece of the Burnout Puzzle
Presented by Claire Williams, PCC

Learning strand: Professional Development

Program Description:
Here’s an all-too-common scenario: high-achieving leaders feel increasingly
demotivated and unfulfilled by their old drives and dreams. They’re craving more meaning and
fulfillment, but they feel stuck, disillusioned, and burnt out. What if the sense of dissatisfaction they’re
experiencing in their work isn't burnout a^er all? What if, instead, it's an invitation to deeper growth, to
something more powerful than anything they've experienced before?

In this session, you’ll learn how these experiences align to an adult development framework which psychologists have been using for decades: “Vertical Development.” This mid-career angst is a common symptom of crossing over from one developmental stage to the next. For leaders, understanding how to navigate this shift can turn a season of burnout into a season of incredible transformation. This session will give you tools and techniques to apply with leaders so they can embrace this growth and find more fulfillment in work and life.

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

• Know how to help clients discern whether the “Redefining Shift” is contributing to their
experience of burnout
• Understand the basics of Vertical Development theory and the Mindset Stages framework,
especially the Achiever and Redefining Stages
• Learn how to apply the 2 Guideposts for the Redefining Shift (Love the Questions, Embrace
Disruption) and how to support client across the 4 Domains of Disruption impacted by the
Redefining Shift (Inner Self, Personal Life, Career Path, Leadership Impact)
• Practice exercises and tools to use with clients undergoing the Redefining Shift (Evolving Values
Inventory; Success, Redefined)
